Informed quarters said today that the Israeli Government would follow up its proclamation of Jerusalem as Israeli-occupied territory by proclaiming the same status for the highway linking Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. It is expected that the Jews will “begin shortly ferrying non-military supplies in unlimited quantities over the road to Jerusalem.
Jerusalem, which has suffered acutely from the water shortage even since the Arabs cut off supplies last May when they captured the Ras El Ain pumping station, will soon have a regular supply and go off water rationing. Jewish engineers are now repairing the Ras El Ain pumping station which Israeli forces captured from the Arabs before the second truce came into effect, and expect to have it in operation within few days.
The only other pumping station remaining in Arab hands was at Latrun. This was declared a no-man’s-land and U.N. truce guards are in control. Jewish engineers till be permitted access to the station if repairs are needed there.
