An Israeli “agent,” possibly in search of Dr. Josef Mengele, the notorious Auschwitz “selection doctor, ” was murdered a month ago on the Peruvian side of the Brazil-Peru border, it was announced here today by Edson Lasmar, Brazilian chief of the staff of Interpol, the international police agency.
Mr. Lasmar said he has asked his Peruvian counterpart in charge of Interpol work in Peru to try to trace the murderer. He did not name the Israeli “agent,” but said the Israeli was apparently killed because he had found traces of Mengele’s whereabouts.
