The Israeli Parliament today voted approval of a government bill extending the authority of the municipality of Tel Aviv to embrace the former Arab town of Jaffa which borders it. Jaffa has been under military administration since May, 1948. Civilian administration will be reestablished there in July. The city now has a population of more than 40,000, mostly recent immigrants, and 3,000 Arabs.
Reports published in the New York press today that Israel is preparing to grant Transjordan a free port in Haifa denied by a government spokesman here. is added that after peace is established, Israel will maintain the accepted facilities for inland countries which all nations at peace have.
