Israeli aircraft dropped leaflets over Jordanian territory yesterday morning which warned terrorists to drop their arms and urged the civilian population to refuse to cooperate with guerrilla bands and thus avoid exposing itself to retaliation by Israeli forces. The leaflets were first reported by Amman radio which announced that the Government had instructed its United Nations representative to lodge a complaint with the Security Council against Israel’s violation of Jordanian air space. The leaflet flights were confirmed by Israeli authorities today.
The leaflets which dropped in a paper shower over Amman and other Jordanian towns noted pointedly that they could easily have been bombs. Those addressed to terrorists training on Jordanian soil claimed they were being used as pawns by the Arab Government and warned that 400 guerrillas have been killed by Israeli forces since the end of the Six-Day War. The marauders were further warned that if they wanted to stay alive they must discard their arms and extend their hands in peace. Jordanian civilians were told in the leaflets that saboteurs had taken refuge in their midst because the people of the West Bank refused to cooperate with them.
