Plans to set up a powerful transmitter in Israel which will broadcast short-wave programs to Jewish communities throughout the world were made public at a press conference here today by Zvi Prihar, Director-General of Posts, Telegraph, Telephone and Radio of the Israeli Government. Mr. Prihar is en route to Mexico City to attend the International High Frequency Radio Conference.
The Israeli official disclosed that negotiations are now under way between Israel and the United States for the inauguration of parcel post service between the countries. The postal system in Israel employs some 1,750 persons, he reported, and plans are now under study for the inception of several new postal services in the Jewish state, including the use of postal money orders and periodical distribution.
All settlements in the Jewish state will soon be joined by a system of radiotelephony, Mr. Prihar revealed. The Israeli Government has set up post offices in Nazareth and has appoints an Arab postal official to serve that community, he said. A similar set-up is planned for Acre and other areas with large Arab populations.
