Israeli police today arrested a former member of the Irgun Zvai Leumi outside the Foreign Office building here carrying a bomb which was primed to explode six minutes later.
The attempted bombing is believed to be connected with the recent signing by Israel of a reparations agreement with the West German Government. The rightwing Herut Party, to which many former Irgunists now belong, has opposed the negotiations from the very first.
The arrested man was identified by police as Dov Ezilowsky, 35, who is married and the father of one child. He has refused to talk, beyond demanding that A. Tamir, an attorney who defended Irgunists during the Mandatory regime, represent him.
The police received a tip that an “incident” might occur today and stationed three secret service men, dressed as gardeners, near the building. They made the arrest.
