Premier David Ben Gurion made a complete tour of the Negev during the week-end, visiting Eilat, situated on the Gulf of Aqaba, as well as other vital points. He checked on the Negev frontiers and reviewed economic plans for the areas bordering on Trans Jordan and Egypt, respectively. Accompanied by high-ranking military officers and government officials, he inspected troops in various Negev outposts. He last visited the Negev in 1934.
The Israeli Government is now considering plans to turn the historic Acre fortress-prison into an asylum for the insane, it was reported here today, A percentage of Jewish immigrants now arriving in Israel have teen mentally affected by their wartime experiences in Nazi concentration camps.
