Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said he would be willing to let Yasser Arafat go to the Gaza Strip. In an interview with The New York Times on Wednesday, Sharon said he would let Arafat leave the siege around his Ramallah headquarters in order to demonstrate that he would rein in terrorists in Gaza. But, Sharon added, he expected Arafat to fail the test.
