Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the United States of violating understandings with Israel by independently drawing up its own proposal for a further Israeli redeployment in the West Bank. The premier told a Knesset committee that the U.S. call for a 13 percent redeployment violated a guarantee written by former U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher that was attached to the 1996 Hebron Agreement. In that letter, Christopher said only Israel would determine its security needs.
