Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak indirectly blamed his challenger in the Feb. 6 prime ministerial election, Likud Party Chairman Ariel Sharon, for a series of controversial moves, such as launching the current crisis with the Palestinians with his visit to the Temple Mount in late September. Before the campaign began, Barak had said the Palestinians used Sharon’s Temple Mount visit as a pretext to attack Israel.
