Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak insisted that neither he nor any future prime minister of Israel would sign any agreement granting the Palestinians sovereignty over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Barak was responding to media reports that said he considered proposals to extend international sovereignty over the site through a body that would grant the Palestinians jurisdiction over the Temple Mount, with Israel retaining control over the Western Wall.
