Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak postponed the weekly Cabinet meeting until Tuesday in order to give negotiators more time to try to resolve a government coalition crisis with the fervently Orthodox Shas Party. The spiritual leaders of Shas instructed the party’s ministers last week to resign at the next Cabinet meeting. Barak hopes to keep Shas, the third largest party in the Knesset, in his coalition to secure broad-based backing for future peace deals.
