Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said he is committed to lowering inflation and would protect the independence of the central bank, which has maintained a tight monetary policy. Barak, who made the comments during a speech in Tel Aviv to business executives, is under heavy pressure to fulfill his campaign pledge to boost economic activity and fight unemployment, now close to 9 percent.
