Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak’s chances of saving his government improved after three ministers from the secular Meretz Party decided to resign. Officials from the fervently Orthodox Shas Party said they would remain in Barak’s coalition after the Meretz resignations become official. Though the party will no longer be part of the Cabinet, Meretz said it would still support Barak in Knesset votes.
