Israeli security forces said they uncovered an attempt to smuggle arms into the Palestinian territories from Syria. The forces arrested several residents of the Druse town of Majdal Shams on the Golan Heights suspected of planning to transfer the weapons to the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Israeli security officials confiscated five powerful roadside bombs and 15 hand grenades. The smuggling ring was allegedly led by a former resident of the town who fled to Syria in 1987.
