Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian gunman trying to breach the Gaza Strip security fence, the army said. Two other Palestinians accompanying the man fled, according to media reports. The attempted penetration into southern Israel near the Karni crossing in Gaza came hours after the Israeli army lifted blockades on Gaza’s main highway, which had been imposed following rocket attacks on the southern Israeli town of Sderot.
