Israeli soldiers killed an armed Palestinian during a firefight in the Gaza Strip. Israel said the gunman was part of a group of armed Palestinians who fired Thursday at soldiers searching for those who carried out a mortar attack on Jewish settlements in northern Gaza. Earlier Thursday, settlements in southern Gaza also came under Palestinian fire.
