Israeli troops along the eastern bank of the Suez Canal opened anti-aircraft fire yesterday at Egyptian military planes which flew over their positions, a military spokesman here said. The spokesman said Israel complained to the United Nations staff in Jerusalem about this Egyptian violation of the Middle East cease-fire. According to the spokesman, a pair of Sukhoi-7, Russian-built jet fighter-bombers, flew over Israeli positions along the northern sector of the canal. Fifteen minutes later, he said, two more flew over positions along the central sector. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Parliament, in an extraordinary closed-door session Thursday, approved a budget of 200 million pounds–around $60 million-for equipping the army with modern weaponry. Beirut radio reported Friday. Acting Defense Minister Elias Saba said the new equipment would include the most sophisticated arms, usable for 10 years, as Lebanon could not afford to replace her weaponry more often, Premier Saeb Salaam said the new equipment would be obtained from “any source possible.” He called Lebanon “not aggressive, but determined to quell any aggression.”
