A 21-year-old Jerusalem youth, a Jew, who was arrested immediately after his return from Jordan on charges of espionage, told police today that he had gone to Jordan only for reasons of economic hardship.
According to police, Chaul Alfassi, who was unable to get a job after his release from Israeli military service, crossed into Jordan and returned with instructions to collect security information for the Jordanians. He will be tried soon in Jerusalem District Court.
