Scores of Israelis crowded around a delegation of Cypriot dock workers currently visiting Israel to express today their support of the national aspirations of the Cypriots and their sympathy for Cypriots fired upon yesterday by British troops on the island.
The intensity of feeling demonstrated by the Israeli population for the Cypriots is explained by two factors: the sympathetic treatment of some 14,000 visaless immigrants interned by the British on that island up to 1948, and the fact that the people of Cyprus are seeking independence from Britain in much the same fashion as the Israeli people had struggled for freedom.
