Israeli forces continued their action against terrorist strongholds in southern Lebanon over the weekend. Yesterday afternoon several shells were fired from Lebanese territory into the Israeli border area around Zarit but caused no casualties or damage, a military spokesman said. He said Israeli artillery returned the fire which was the first from behind the Lebanese border since July 27. Earlier Israeli gunners shelled the area near Hullah village in southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Naif Hawatmeh’s Popular Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine conceded that last week’s terrorist incursion into Israel had failed. The PDFLP admitted that two of its men were killed and two captured. But it claimed that other members of the group, whose mission was to take hostages, had returned safely to their base. The base was not identified.
