An all-out battle was being waged today against huge swarms of locusts which covered large fertile areas in the Jordan valley south of Lake Tiberias.
Members of settlements, aided by special anti-locust squads of the Agricultural Ministry, and by spray planes, were fighting the locusts with every available means.
Officials reported that the green fields of Ein Gedi were covered by newly-born locust swarms. New swarms were feared coming from Jordan. They also reported that tie chemicals used to battle the insects had been carried by winds from Tiberias to Lake Tiberias, poisoning fish in the lake.
