Many Israelis are spending sleepless nights since the Olympic Games began in Los Angeles last Sunday. Because of the time difference, Israelis are staying up until the early morning hours to watch the live coverage of the Games.

Prof. Yitzhak Levin, head of the sleep research laboratory at Bar Ilan University, warned that prolonged and continuous lack of sleep may have a detrimental affect and may even couse a disaster on the job or at home. Levin suggested foregoing watching the live coverage of the Games and getting a good night’s sleep. He suggested that those who cannot do without watching the TV coverage should get a video cassette recorder.

Meanwhile, viewers of Jordan’s live TV broadcast of the opening Olympic ceremonies suddenly found their TV screens blacked out when the Israeli contingent marched past the cameras. Jordanian TV telecast, with commentary, the teams from Hong Kong, Iraq and Ireland and then blacked out for the Israeli team. As soon as the team moved out of range of the TV cameras the transmission began again as the Italian contingent came into view.
