Israel’s defense minister said former naval commandos who trained in polluted waters and who contracted cancer will be recognized and compensated by the army. Accepting the minority position of a member of a panel that probed the divers’ claims, Shaul Mofaz said Sunday that even in the absence of statistical proof linking the illnesses with the pollution in Israel’s Kishon River, the army was morally obliged to take responsibility for the commandos.
