Israel’s deputy defense minister held unscheduled talks with a Saudi official. Ephraim Sneh met with Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, Adel al-Jubeir, while the two were traveling abroad recently, Israel Radio reported Sunday. At the end of their brief conversation, Jubeir said: “We have many problems to solve together.” Despite the absence of formal ties between Riyadh and Jerusalem, Saudi Arabia recently has pursued an indirect rapprochement with Israel given their shared concerns over Iran’s nuclear program. The Saudis also have been central to efforts to broker a breakthrough on the Israeli-Palestinian front.
