Israel’s first Defense College, authorized recently by a vote of the Cabinet, was formally opened here tonight. The students included 25 army officers as well as senior officials of various ministries.
Prime Minister Levi Eshkol greeted the students on behalf of the Government and expressed the hope that, by next year, the graduates of the college would prove the success of the new institution. Mr. Eshkol spoke not only as Prime Minister but also as Minister of Defense. The ceremonies were attended also by other members of the Cabinet as well as by the chief of staff of Israel’s armed forces, Gen. Zvi Tsur.
