Israel’s High Court of Justice prohibited the Housing Ministry from renting hundreds of apartments at subsidized rates to yeshiva students who have been granted deferrals from army service. The justices refrained from telling the state what to do with the 590 apartments that have already been constructed for the students. Deputy Housing Minister Meir Porush, of the fervently Orthodox United Torah Judaism bloc, pledged to initiate legislation that would bypass the court ruling.
