Israel’s Histadrut chairman Amir Peretz visited Israeli Druze Azam Azam in the prison in Egypt, where Israel has said he was wrongly convicted of espionage. The visit was cleared during talks Peretz held with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Mubarak has said that the incarceration of Azam could have been quietly resolved, had Israel not publicly criticized the Egyptian judicial system at the trial.
