Israel’s interior minister refused a court order to recognize non-Orthodox converts. Eli Yishai, of the fervently Orthodox Shas Party, said he would go to jail rather than implement the High Court ruling, which ordered the Interior Ministry to register Israelis who had Reform or Conservative conversions as Jews on their national identification cards.
