Israel’s Labor Party set Feb. 15 as the date for holding primary elections to determine the party’s list of Knesset candidates. Party leader Ehud Barak averted a split within Labor by agreeing during a convention of leading party officials to back down from his request to reserve four spots at the top of the list for his allies. The party chose former Prime Minister Shimon Peres for the second spot on the list during the convention.
