Israel’s maintenance of the freedom of speech and thought despite wars and tension can serve as a lesson to countries in South America, Peruvian author Mario Vargas Llosa said upon receiving a Hebrew University honorary fellowship here last week. Llosa is currently a visiting lecturer at the university, as guest of the Institute of Cultural Relations between Israel. Latin America, Spain and Portugal. Llosa said that no had traveled widely in the world, but no experience had been so rich and rewarding as his stay in Israel. He added, intellectuals have an important task to perform as a bridge between South America and Israel.
