There has been a reduction in unemployment in Israel, but the drop is only seasonal and a further rise in joblessness may be expected after the Passover holidays, Labor Minister Yigal Allon said, addressing a meeting at the Maritime Club at Ashdod.
Mr. Allon emphasized that, despite difficulties due to the present economic recession, he supported the Government’s current economic policy. That policy, he stated, “will avert sufferings of hundreds of thousands at the expense of sacrificing tens of thousands during the transitional period.” He pointed out that more than 300 million Israeli pounds ($100 million) from the development budget has been earmarked for projects to increase productive employment.
