Sources close to the British Foreign office today described Israel’s note to the Big Powers on Jewish claims against Germany for indemnification as “extremely complex.” They emphasized that “the matter needs thorough consideration and protracted interallied discussion.” At the same time, they stresses that termination of the state of war in Germany will not affect restitution and compensation matters.

Lord Henderson, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, today received A.L. Easterman, representative of the world Jewish Congress, and explained to him that the British Government fully sympathizes with Jewish claims against Germany. He promised that the British Government will continue to urge Germany to fulfill its obligations with regard to indemnification of Nazi victims. Mr. Easterman suggested the creation of a mixed Allied tribunal to protect the rights of claimants.
