Israel’s phased withdrawal from Sinai has facilitated the operations of Bedouin car thieves. In recent months the desert nomads have been stealing cars in Israel and burying them in the Sinai sands. The idea is to dig them up and sell them as soon as the Egyptians take over the area. MK Samuel Flatto-Sharon’s expensive Mercedes recently turned up in Sinai. Now the Bedouins have found a new source of profit. They are offering to track down missing cars for IL 20,000 each.
