Israel’s population at the beginning of its 31st anniversary was estimated as 3,760,000, It was announced today by the Central Bureau of Statistics. The total figure included approximately 3,158,000 Jews and about 600,000 non-Jews, including Moslems, Christians, Druze and others. A census after the Jewish State was established 31 years ago showed there were 716,700 Jews and 156,000 non-Jews. Since 1948 the Jewish population has increased by 490 percent, mainly due to immigration. The non-Jewish population increased by 384 percent, mainly by natural increase but also by immigration under a program of uniting split families.
