Israel’s prime minister shrugged off a Syrian peace overture as insufficient. “Syria is under enormous American pressure, and clearly it wants to relieve some of this pressure. What better way than to be seen pursuing peace talks?” Ariel Sharon told Israeli newspaper editors Thursday, referring to recent offers from Damascus to resume negotiations that stalled in 2000.
