Israel’s Supreme Court barred the army from promoting a brigadier general, ruling he had exploited his position by having an illicit affair with a soldier who served under him. The promotion of Brig. Gen. Nir Galili had been held up for two years because of the intimate relationship, which occurred three years ago when Galili was commander of an army base. Women’s rights advocates, who had closely followed the petition, hailed the decision as a breakthrough in recognizing sexual harassment in the army.
