The Italian Government will promulgate tomorrow a decree transferring to the Union of Jewish Communities all heirless property left by Jews who were victims of Nazi or Fascist persecution after Sept. 1943.
The Union is authorized to use these funds as it sees fit for religious, welfare and rehabilitation purposes. Raffaele Cantoni, president of the Union, yesterday called on the Minister of Justice and expressed the thanks of Italian Jewry.
The Minister said the decree was aimed at “correcting the evil and injustices done the Jewish people,” and was a recognition of the Union’s activities on behalf of Jewish institutions, which benefit Italian Jews and non-Jews.
