Dr. Sergio Piperno, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, conferred today with Italian Chief of Police Dr. Giovanni Carcatevra on recent anti-Semitic incidents. Dr. Piperno cited specific instances, particularly in Genoa.
The Police Chief promised to issue instructions to police authorities throughout the country to be on the alert for anti-minority manifestations. Dr. Piperno had also asked that the police be more liberal in granting residence permits to Egyptian Jews now in Italy as refugees.
