The election of women to posts in the Jewish Community Council of Italy has been made possible by a ruling issued today by the Ministry of the Interior.
The ruling was contained in a letter endorsing the stand of the Association of Jewish Women of Italy that the law governing the organization of Jewish communities be modified to allow women to vote and hold leading positions. Although the communication does not have the standing of a law, it will serve to grant women electoral rights without the necessity of invoking the cumbersome machinery for modifying the legislation covering community organization.
