Alluding to the fact that Pope John XXIII had already altered certain Catholic liturgy and prayers, eliminating references offensive to the Jewish people, the message stated: “Mindful of decisions already made by His Holiness, John XXIII, Jews nurture the hope that this solemn assembly may follow the road already traced so that, in an hour of grave crisis, common spiritual values will become reinforced and new ways of mutual respect and brotherhood among men disclosed. “
