The Italian Government has prohibited shechita, Jewish ritual slaughter of animals, it was announced today by La Tribuna. The newspaper Gazetta del Popolo published the order under the headline, “Government Provision End Barbaric Practice.”

Police are carrying out a house-to-house census in Rome and the provinces to establish the number of foreign Jews in Italy, apparently to implement the Fascist Grand Council’s decree for expulsion of post-war Jewish immigrants who do not leave within six months.
