Italian Foreign Minister Gaetano Martino told the Senate’s Foreign Policy Committee here today that it would be impossible to expect any spectacular gestures from Italy with regard to the current Middle Eastern situation.

He revealed that a conference of all Italian diplomatic representatives in the Middle East would be held here next week. He also declared that Italy was not interested in joining the 1950 Tripartite Declaration, because such adherence by Italy could prejudice any eventual Italian mediation offer.

Professor Virgilio Ferrari, Mayor of Milan, who recently returned from a visit to Israel, today expressed his admiration for the achievements of the Jewish State in the fields of social and economic welfare, in an address to Milan’s Rotary Club.
