The Turin newspaper Gazzetta Del Popolo asserted today that the Fascist Grand Council, at its Oct. I meeting, will not limit its examination of the “racial problem” entirely to the Jews but will consider it “from the viewpoint of an imperial nation governing peoples of different races.” According to the newspaper, the council will take measures of a general constitutional character affecting all the races in the Italian Empire. Special measures, the paper added, will be taken with regard to Italian-born Jews.

La Stampa, also of Turin, predicted that the Council would consider the Jewish question as a whole and would fix in “unmistakable fashion” the precise position of the Jewish element in Italian national life and draw the precise limits of Jewish activities in the economic and intellectual life of the country. The paper demanded the dismissal of Jewish civil servants in Turin.

Announcement was made that the Government will provide special elementary schools for Jewish children who are barred, under the recent anti-Jewish decrees, from attending the regular schools. The schools will be operated at Government expense, it was stated, and will start operation immediately after the fall opening of the public schools.
