The Immigration Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee was asked this week-end by two representatives of the Joint Distribution Committee to aid Jewish refugees in Shanghai.
Simon Bergman, one of the representatives, who spent more than seven years in Shanghai as J.D.C. representative, told the Subcommittee that no threats against the refugees in Shanghai had been made as yet, but he expressed fears that the Chinese Communists might persecute them. Robert Pipel, the other representative, testified that 1,500 Jews still remain in Shanghai.
