The merger of two yeshivot in Iran which are maintained with Joint Distribution Committee funds was announced today by Theodor Feder, JDC director in Iran.
He said that the teaching staff and student body of the yeshiva in Teheran had been transferred to Shirez and that the merged institution there had been recognized by the Iran Government as authorized to license teachers for posts in schools in Teheran. Graduates are already teaching in Jewish schools in all Iran cities.
The first yeshivot in Iran were founded and operated by Ozar Hatorah which continues to be in charge of administering the merged institution. Mr. Feder said that with the extra facilities and larger staff made possible by the merger, it was hoped in the near future that the schools would be able to provide rabbinic teaching and ordination.
