William Bein, who recently returned to the United States after more than four years of service as Joint Distribution Committee director for Poland, has been appointed J.D.C. director for French Morocco, it was announced today by Moses A. Leavitt, executive vice-chairman of the organization.
Mr. Bein returned to this country for consultation after the J.D.C. offices in Poland were closed January 1, 1950, at the request of the Polish Government. Taken on the grounds that Polish Jewry no longer needed assistance from foreign voluntary agencies, the government’s step ended nearly 35 years of uninterrupted J.D.C. service on behalf of Polish Jewry.
