The Joint Distribution Committee–at a meeting held here today of Israeli Government and Jewish Agency officials with Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, European J.D.C. director–agreed to assume responsibility for invalid and chronically-ill immigrants arriving in the Jewish state. Several thousand persons are involved in the agreement.

Participation of the J.D.C. in large-scale housing and other immigrant-absorption schemes will be discussed at future meetings.

A total of 1,200 immigrants landed in Haifa this morning aboard the S.S. Hegba. The new arrivals embarked at a French port.
