The Joint Distribution Committee today presented to the daughter of Morocco’s King Mohammed V a check for 2,500,000 Moroccan francs ($5,000) to aid the relief of victims of the disastrous Agadir earthquake in Morocco.
The presentation was made at Casablanca by Henry Kirsch, JDC director in Morocco. The king’s daughter, Prince Lalla Aicha, is head of the Moroccan National Welfare Organization. The JDC’s contribution was for “general” relief activities, and not earmarked solely for Jewish victims of the earthquake.
In presenting the check to the Princess, Mr, Kirsch also offered to the Welfare Organization the use of JDC’s Moroccan staff of specialists in child health, nutrition and general social welfare. Today’s gift, he said, supplements the JDC contribution of 12 tons of food and other supplies already given in Morocco for general distribution.
In addition to the gifts for general distribution, JDC headquarters here pointed out, special measures are also being taken in Morocco for relief of the many Jewish victims of the disaster, estimated at a minimum of 1,500.
