Dr. Akiba Kohane, deputy director for Germany of the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, has been appointed JDC director for Brazil. He will make his headquarters in Sao Paulo under the general supervision of Dr. Julius Lomnitz, JDC representative for South America.
Dr. Kohane will organize and administer in Brazil an immigration and integration program for newly-arrived immigrants, whose absorption into that country’s life and economy has been beset with difficulties. He was secretary-general of the Zionist Organization of Poland before the war, and later settled in Palestine. In 1944, he joined the staff of the JDC, served the organization in Iran and in Poland, and, in 1947, was transferred to his JDC post in Germany.
